The client was tired of a plain view from the kitchen window, and wanted to create an exciting and vibrant focal point for himself and wildlife alike. The challenge was a wet depression that seasonally floods. This had to be conidered when choosing a planting mix. I chose bold and colourful riparian plants of both native and non-native origin to create a pond edge habitat full of life. A circular pond feature, made from local stone already on site, creates structure and presence. This blends into the surrounding garden with a native meadow mix.

The addition of hardy upland shrubs such as Hawthron (Crataegus) Flowering Dogwood (Cornus) and Ribes (Currant) add year round height and beautiful spring blossoms in succession from March to May.

This whole project was dug by hand, constructed and planted by myself and a friend (due to no access for machinery). It was a pleasure seeing the design through to completion, and I look forward to its second growing year where it will really start to fill out.
