Considered design for gardens across North Yorkshire
Based near Ripon, Rowan Horticulture provides garden and landscape design across North Yorkshire, including Harrogate, York and the surrounding countryside. We work with private and commercial clients on projects ranging from individual planting schemes and garden redesigns to larger landscape projects. Our approach combines thoughtful design with practical horticultural knowledge, specialising in naturalistic planting that responds to the character and conditions of each site. Services extend from initial concepts and detailed planting plans through to plant sourcing, installation and coordination with trusted specialist contractors.
-
full design service for gardens where the brief calls for a considered rethink. The approach is planting-led and naturalistic. Gardens are shaped by the character of the site, the quality of light, the soil, and the seasons rather than imposed upon it.
The work suits smaller and medium-sized gardens where detail and plant selection matter more than scale. Natural materials are chosen for their honesty and longevity. Hard landscape is kept minimal and purposeful, allowing the planting to set the tone.
Each garden design is unique to its site and client. Fees are discussed on enquiry.

For gardens that don't need a full redesign but deserve better planting. This service covers new borders being established from scratch, the redesign and refresh of tired or underperforming beds, and seasonal planting for pots and containers.
The focus is on plant combinations that work ecologically and visually. They are chosen for their relationship to one another, their response to the conditions, and their interest across the full growing season. The result is planting that feels considered and refined.
Available as a standalone service or as part of a wider design project.

-
A specialist service for clients wanting to introduce a stronger sense of nature and seasonal rhythm into their land. This covers wildflower and meadow schemes, naturalistic bulb planting, native tree and hedgerow planting, and the establishment of ecologically rich habitats within garden settings.
The work draws on an understanding of plant communities and how they establish over time. Designed not just for how a space looks in year one, but for how it develops and settles into the landscape over many years.
Suitable for gardens, paddocks, rural plots, and larger private grounds.

Design is only as good as its implementation. Rowan Horticulture works with a network of specialist nurseries and trusted growers to source plants of genuine quality and often varieties unavailable through mainstream suppliers.
Installation is carried out with the same care as the design itself, with attention to spacing, soil preparation, and planting conditions. For clients who prefer to use their own contractors, detailed planting plans and specifications are provided to ensure the design is realised as intended.
