Gravel Front Garden

Where: York, North Yorkshire

Size: 25m2

Status: Planted Spring 2025

This project took a difficult site and turned it into a low maintenance high impact front garden. The conditions were challenging. Wind, a full sun aspect and rocky dry soil. Rather than working against the conditions, I took inspiration from harsh rocky landscapes such as the Southern Mediterranean and Mexico, bringing together plants from these regions to create a thriving garden loved by pollinators and the clients alike.

The garden features multiple species of Euphorbias, Salvias, Thymes and silver leaved perennials. This front garden showcases what can be done in small spaces with considered plant choices. The garden is never watered, and is thriving and alive after weeks of no rain and hot weather.
